Phu Cat Airport
LZ English
What's all over the runway?
Not many pictures today as we traveled most of the day and it was raining all day.
Our first stop was Phu Cat Airport where Andy flew into when he came to Vietnam. He said it still looks pretty much the same. We were unable to explore as it is an active military base with MIG Fighters based there.
We visited LZ English next which was base camp for the 173 Airborne. Andy flew from Phu Cat to LZ English and went through jungle training. When we were here a year ago the locals used the runway to dry rice. Today they are drying a root of a tree that is used to make animal food and many other products. We also met some of the same people we saw here last year.
We fished our day by traveling to Hue. Just out of Da Nang we went through the mountain in 4 mile long tunnel. Motor bikes are not allowed in the tunnel, so the have to stop and load them on trucks and then get on a bus to go through the tunnel. We retired to the hotel early as two of the Vets are fighting colds.
See you tomorrow.
