Do you think they got lost?
I think we need to go that way next
Now which way do we go to get out of here????
Phil getting a lesson on running patrols
The whole crew taking a butt break
The boys in yellow
I think you need to drive a little slower. Could you say that in Vietnamese? What???? This van doesn't go any slower!!!!!
What, you want me to climb up that thing?
You mean I have to do this again before I can go to bed???
It was another long day but well worth it. This was the day we went looking for Fire Base Birmingham where Keith spent time 40 years ago. Keith, Tony and Scott did some tramping through the jungle to find the location. Forty years changes things a lot. We also found the heliport and the high school is built on it now.
After finding Birmingham we took a trip to the Ashau Valley. This was the area where Hamburger Hill, Eagles Nest, Currahee, Rendezvous, Airborne and several others. The artillery men couldn't believe the rough terrain they had to operate in. Keith told me it has been a rewarding experience he has been waiting years to do this trip. The camaraderie developed between the veterans in the 5 days has been unexpected and welcomed.
In the first picture today we had stopped by the side of the road and waiting for Keith, Scott and Tony to come back from their search. A lady saw us standing and waiting and brought up a table and chairs for us. We bought some ice and other things from her and had a great time visiting with her family. Phil got some great pictures of the little girl. We spent about an hour with them.
In the next two pictures they are searching for Fire Base Birmingham. The next picture they are telling Phil about experiences they had in this area.
They next picture we are all taking a break from riding in the van.
The boys in yellow are our two drivers.
The next picture is of David and Michael our two drivers, Chau, our interpreter and Hoa the AmerAsian that joined us in Qui Nhon.
The picture of the tower was found close to Fire Base Birmingham.
The last picture is me doing the blog. See you tomorrow.
