Pat, are you interviewing for a job?

Wow!  What a view from our high rise barracks.

Yesterday when we traveled from Hue to Da Nang we went over Hai Van Pass.  At the top were these old fortresses built many years ago.  Some were built by the Minh Mang Dynasty and interesting to see.  In the caption by the picture it said they were used by the U.S. troops and the puppets from 1954 to 1975.  I am not sure who the puppets were.

Today we traveled from Da Nang to Qui Nhon with a couple of stops.  Pat had a brother in Vietnam the same time he was here.  He was able to go visit him at Ky Xuan, which was a little island that the VC would come and take the rice away from the farmers.  A military unit was sent there to protect the farmers and keep the VC from taking the rice.  When Pat was there they had to take a flat bottom boat across the bay, but today there is a road.  It has been renamed to Tam Giang and is about 50 miles north of Qui Nhon.

After checking into the hotel we went to Hoa's house for dinner.  Hoa is an Amerasian and owns a sawmill and furniture factory.  Many members of her family came and cooked the meal for us.  We started with home made chicken vegetable soup, then fried chicken, then spaghetti, and finished off with fried beef with coconut. It was excellent and could not have found a meal like that in a restaurant.  We also had different kinds of fruit and tea.  We should not need to eat tomorrow.

Tomorrow we are going to do some sight seeing and apartment/house hunting.  There are a couple of us that really like this city.  It has nice wide roads with decent traffic and it is not a tourist town.  Lots of tourist tend to spoil the city, especially raising the price of everything.  The main industry is furniture building.

It is 1:30 AM and I am going to bed.  See you tomorrow.
